The Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (IPVC) identified a vulnerability in the Android operating system, which can affect the normal performance of applications that resort to the Bluetooth interface for communication. More information here.

When installing an application, the user may give it permission to use the Bluetooth system, which may use excessively the said interface. An excessive use of the Bluetooth advertising channel can hinder, or even prevent, other applications from also using it.

Among the various applications that depend on the Bluetooth system to operate correctly, there are the contact tracing applications, like the STAYAWAY COVID.

Although this issue does not expose a flaw in the Android operating system, in the STAYAWAY COVID app, or in any other application in the mobile device, it highlights, yet again, the increasing need for the informed and responsible use of all digital devices by everyone.
